Artistic Position
Maxwell Dunlop’s paintings depict interiors, landscapes and architectural settings marked by a distinctive sense of gravity and quiet tension. His spaces appear both familiar and strangely unreal. They seem to be assembled from memory and observation without ever being tied to a specific place.
Working between figuration and abstraction, Dunlop created paintings in which light, perspective and fields of colour generate a psychological atmosphere. His unpopulated interiors are more than mere settings. They become protagonists that make absence, time and memory tangible. This combination of narrative openness and formal precision gives his work its lasting resonance.
