in the Salon
December 7th 2019 – February 8th 2020
opening reception: December 6th 6 – 9pmThe chief pattern which distinguishes the creative trajectory of Armin Völckers is one of an amorphic paradigm. While the seminal experiments by the former filmmaker in paint reveal indelible influences to post-Impressionism and a radical opponent, abstract expressionism, the actual quality remains visceral: the nuance of depth and gradation. Bereft of a vernacular code, the drama of Armin Völckers‘ painting embraces with comic nausea the spectacle in which we live. With our fixation upon the visual, he offers ulterior messages written in states conscious or unconscious, visceral commentary on our collective horizon of post-industrial culture.
Armin Völckers was born in 1963 in Berlin and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. From 1983 to 1988 he studied Visual Arts at the UdK Berlin.
Beside painting Armin Völckers has also worked as a screenwriter, film director and producer of animated series for children. His debut feature film „Leroy“ won the German Film Prize (Lola) for „Best Children‘s Film“ and „Best Musical Score“. Armin Völckers is a member of the German Film Academy.
Armin Völckers‘ paintings are in international private and public collections such as The World Bank (Washington DC), HypoVereinsbank (Unicredit), Schering AG (Berlin), Sir Paul McCartney, Patricia Highsmith (Estate).
