Artistic Position
Armando Mariño’s paintings connect personal and collective memory with social and political conflict. Working with imagery drawn from art history, the press, the internet and everyday culture, he reorganises visual material into complex, often ironic narratives.
His work explores questions of power, exclusion, cultural identity, origin and sexuality. Mariño understands painting as a space in which contradictory images and experiences can coexist, allowing multiple readings to remain simultaneously visible.
