Hannah Jones

Born: 1990 in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom

Media: Painting, Works on Paper

Education: Swansea Metropolitan University and University of Glamorgan

Artistic Position

Hannah Jones develops abstract compositions through layers of colour, rhythm and movement. Acrylic and ink are built up on canvas and paper, repeatedly overlaid and partially concealed. Visible and hidden layers create the tension that defines the finished work.

Music plays a central role in her creative process. Rather than translating specific compositions into images, Jones responds to the emotions, rhythms and associations evoked by listening. As a result, her paintings retain an open, physical quality. Residencies and extended periods in Mexico, New York and Portugal, together with her more recent exploration of sculpture, have expanded the spatial and material dimensions of her practice.
