Donata Benker

Donata Benker creates these anti-utopian sceneries. Or are they full of harmony? Nature is set in contrast to human architecture.  The human is absent and, yet it is present. Figuration and abstraction are carefully mixted – colours, too, play the game of natural and artificial shapes. Benker offers an open perspective to the viewer – a welcoming entrance. But she does, at the same time, leave one alone in this weird feeling of solitude – in a world that does not really try to mime reality but rather obviously limits itself to a two-dimensional world. A stage maybe?
